Job Description

Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop’s School is an independent, all gender college-preparatory school for 800 students in grades six through twelve. The School is located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. With a student-teacher ratio of approximately 9 to 1, Bishop’s is known for academic, artistic, and athletic excellence while celebrating character development, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Last year’s applicant pool drew from 72 zip codes and 168 middle and high schools throughout San Diego County and beyond. Fifty-one percent of the student population self-identify as students of color. Additionally, over $4 million in need-based grants is awarded annually.

The Bishop's School seeks an Editorial and Print Content Manager with immediate start .
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Editorial and Print Content Manager (EPCM)  provides strategic and hands-on support of all aspects of the School’s marketing communications efforts. The EPCM supports all campus departments and initiatives by producing creative and unique print and digital content that authentically reflects the institutional brand and message and positions Bishop’s at the forefront in our local independent school market.

The EPCM holds primary responsibility for print content production across an array of media including the School’s website and supports the  social media efforts of various constituencies on campus including parent volunteer groups, student organizations, and class year groups. The EPCM also supports MarCom colleagues to provide photographic and video coverage of School events.

Along with outstanding writing skills and the ability to effectively articulate the mission, vision and values of the School, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of professionalism, commitment to excellence, and understanding of mission driven organizations and work, combined with a customer service orientation in engaging with colleagues, students, parents and guardians, and the external community. 

This is a 12-month per year in-person position.

Responsibilities Include:

External Marketing and Communications 

• Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Communications to develop and execute a strategic, comprehensive communications plan to support admissions, academics, advancement, athletics, arts, alumni engagement and other campus initiatives.
• Assist with advertising efforts promoting School initiatives throughout the year, including  admissions key dates and events as well as donor opportunities
• Research, conduct interviews and write professional stories and news articles for Bishop’s magazine, parent and alumni publications and the School’s website.
• Edit articles for Bishop’s magazine, parent and alumni publications.
• Review and provide editorial comments for student-generated publications, when requested.
• Review and edit departmental and faculty communications when requested. 
• Provide writing and editing support for weekly e-newsletters and School push-page communications

• Manage content on the website, internal resource board and public digital bulletin board on a weekly basis, and periodically assess web content. This includes written content as well as video and image selection. 
• Ensure that the School’s brand, voice and mission are reflected in all collateral materials
• Evaluate the effectiveness of communication tools through market research, data collection and analysis. Measure performance of the School’s website by using tools such as Google Analytics
• Report conclusions and recommendations for improvement of strategic communications

• Help manage emergency and/or crisis communications as needed
• Assist with media outreach

Internal Communications

• Collaborate with School staff to design brochures, flyers, programs and other marketing materials using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Canva.
• Coordinate work with outside graphic designers
• Coordinate mailings, printed materials, invitations and other print projects as needed.
• Assist the School’s Parents’ Association as needed with communication efforts, event promotion, and push page invitations. Provide marketing, organizational and event support for other parent volunteer groups as needed
• Serve as the School’s liaison by attending meetings held by various groups on campus including PA, faculty, class sponsors, etc.
• Attend occasional faculty meetings, special project committee meetings, Parent’s Association meetings as School’s liaison, 
• Liaise with the HR team to support the onboarding process for all new hires by producing a headshot, business cards, name badge, directory entry and “Getting to Know You” article

Photography and Videography

In partnership with the Visual and Digital Content Manager,

• Assist with the School’s social media platforms, including drafting captions for posts.
• Assist in video production and editing for the marketing department, including developing ideas, scripts and timelines.
• Assist in managing logistics in scheduling video production meetings, filming, gathering props.
• Assist in covering campus events with photos and video, including some after-school performing arts performances, athletics contests, community gatherings, guest speakers, alumni and/or donor events, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree 
• 3-5 years of successful experience in marketing and communications, preferably in a fast-paced educational or nonprofit setting. 
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize to complete multiple projects within required timelines
• Ability to balance independent work and collaborative efforts
• Outstanding attentiveness to detail and quality
• Willingness and availability to be present for occasional evening and/or weekend events, as needed
• Significant experience with editorial content development and management
• Working knowledge of Adobe software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, AfterEffects
• Working knowledge of AP Style
• Competent with various forms of digital media
• Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality with regard to School and student related information

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $76,000 to $86,000 annually, based on experience.
