A postdoctoral position in HIV and substance abuse pathogenesis
The Volsky lab in the Department of Medicine/Infectious Diseases at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, seeks a Bioinformatics Specialist with experience in rodent studies to participate in studies on the interactions between HIV and drugs of abuse in promoting HIV neuropathogenesis and virus- and drug-related behaviors. The studies will be conducted in mice using a model of HIV neurocognitive disease by EcoHIV infection. The research will focus in part on the role of microglia in HIV neuropathogenesis and/or drug abuse. Work will include analyses of single-cell, single-nucleus, or spatial RNA-seq databases from mouse brain to identify key gene determinants of HIV-substance abuse interaction. Functional validation studies in animals or other suitable experimental models are also envisaged, with an objective of future development of therapeutic interventions.
Additional preferred skills/experience:
-Experience in experimental pathogenesis in animal models
-Experience with NGS data generation/analysis
-Interest in substance use disorder (SUD) research
-2-3 years of experience working with rodents
-Track record of independence in research projects
-Track record in working within a team and in multi-team environments
-Good communication and interpersonal skills
Educational requirements: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree in molecular biology, bioinformatics, nanoscience, or a similar field.

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $72500 - $80000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
